About

The farmhouse from the 17th century is located above the center of Tschagguns, on the Ziegerberg.

The building is a listed monument. At the beginning of the 20th century, a workshop was added on the south side, but it was built at a different level. This part was removed and replaced by a new structure aligned with the original floor levels. To preserve the historical substance, the weathered log construction was kept.

The masonry part is being renovated and re-plastered with lime. Apart from a tiled stove, the house has no technical installations.

After the renovation, the building consists of two residential units with a shared entrance. To preserve the historic facade, the paneling in the parlor was removed, insulated, equipped with a wall heating system, and reinstalled. The masonry part is also insulated on the inside, using 8 cm calcium silicate boards.

The new part of the building uses a conventional wall structure with external insulation for the parts in contact with the ground. The upper floor of the new section is a lightweight timber construction.

The historic stove was restored by Harald Müller. The stove builder preserved the structure and exterior plaster completely and only refinished the interior. A new black steel door and an air inlet improve combustion and airflow. The masonry chimney increases the stove’s heat storage capacity.

The bedrooms in the old upper floor were also insulated from the inside. Since there was no paneling here, the floorboards to the attic were cut and reused as interior wall cladding.

The ceiling above the upper floor was replaced and insulated; the attic remains unheated. In the new section, the upper floor walls are clad with silver fir paneling.

The living room with a loggia facing south is the only room with a higher ceiling in the house.
